Mexico 2019 - Guitars, dancers, scorpions

On my way to a school of photography where there are always interesting exhibits I happened on some people in the adjacent park selling guitars and acoustic basses made in Paracho, the hub of guitar making in Mexico and world renowned for the fine guitars made there.

Basses

This park, Parque De La Ciudadela, seems to be the hub for dancing in CDMX.  Every Saturday people get all duded up and gather to dance the Cuban Son and there is also a big Danzón festival on occasion that I've blogged about before.  Danzón is said to be the official musical genre and dance of Cuba and has been widely embraced in Mexico.  It's actually a very staid and formal (and pretty boring to watch) dance style.  But it's fun to see so many people in their formal attire out dancing in the park.

After leaving the park I took a stroll through the San Juan Mercado de Carne Exoticas (market of exotic meats).  They've got everything, just about any kind of animal you can think of and some you probably never would. I happened on a stand selling these guys and not having tried one before, I stopped for a  alacrán (scorpion).

They're deep fried, served with lime, salt and a little shot of mezcal and taste like something deep fried with lime and salt.

Didn't try the chocolate covered ants.  Maybe another time.

Something completely different
