Df 2020 - More Citibanamex

A few posts ago I wrote about an art collection owned by Citibanamex in one of the old colonial buildings downtown.  This bank seems to be a major supporter of art here in Mexico and abroad.  They are currently running a show in Los Angeles and were the sponsor for the ZONAMACO art fair I attended, the largest in Latin America.  They also have another venue downtown that I discovered last year, yet another beautiful colonial building that has changing exhibitions.  Right now the show is Maestros de Artes Populares, folk art elevated to the level of fine art.  I've seen many of these type of exhibitions but this one was probably the best.  So far, I've visited it three times, once on my own and twice bringing others to it.  So now I'm going to bombard you with several posts worth of what I saw.

It's hard to get an idea of scale without a reference but these figures are 3-4 inches tall.  This is a very popular art form here in Mexico

Some of that beautiful Mata Ortiz ceramics

I thought these lions were very powerful.  They have a presence that makes you take a step back.

More to come!
