I've written about Coyaocan before. That's the neighbourhood popularly known for being where Frida Kahlo lived. Waking from the subway stop to the centre of Coyoacan through the beautiful, huge Viveros Park, is always lovely.
Whenever I visit there I stop in at the Museo de Artes Populares, a sort of folk arts centre.
There were these cute little diorama sort of pieces.
And, I discovered when I explored further, the annual tamale festival was in full swing. This wasn't the first time I've been in Coyoacan when it was going on.
Tamales with different fillings, fruit flavoured waters behind them and atole, a corn based drink traditionally served with tamales
Atole cups
Bowls of the ever popular chapolines (grasshoppers).
This tamale with a filling of mole, chicken, prunes, raisins and bits of hard-boiled egg was delicious.
Gardens at a cultural centre
This is the house where Leon Trotsky lived during his time in Mexico.
Until Stalin's henchmen caught up with him.
